Long Sutton Hockey Club – a brief historyLong Sutton Hockey club was founded in 1923. At this time there was both a Long Sutton Hockey Club and a Holbech Hockey Club. So it was realised that one club had a ground, but few players and the other players but no ground! An amalgamation was agreed. In the 60’s the club moved to Cinder Ash, Long Sutton. The club proceeded to build a club house, and acquire a second pitch. The club continued to produce many county level players. As the club grew in the 70’s a joint venture was agreed with Long Sutton Cricket Club to build a new pavilion in Park Road. The Earl of Ancaster duly opened the pavilion in May 1975. With the increased growth, the club retained the two pitched in Cinder Ash and purchased land to lay two more pitches in Daniels Gate. Then we come to the era of the Artificial Pitch. The Club raised and acquired funding to have an artificial pitch laid at The Peele School, Long Sutton. Stuart Storey carried out the official opening in October 1997. Now All Matches at all levels are played on the “Astro”. Long Sutton Hockey Club – the present dayLong Sutton Hockey Club still retain their clubhouse in Park Road, but now have additional use of the changing facilities at the new Peele Leisure Centre (pictured above). Long Sutton Hockey Club have always been associated with producing many players over the years – both male & female – who have gone on to play at higher levels; from County schools to Full County, Regional representation and onto Full Internationals. The 2005/2006 season brought continued success for the Club as all the teams maintained their places in their respective divisions.
