Long Sutton's start to the season wasn't the one they had hoped for. Sutton struggled with moving the ball quickly and moving for each other which cost them dearly all game. Colchester broke the deadlock half way through the first half through a short corner. Sutton had a few short corners themselves but couldn't convert them. 1-0 half time. Sutton started the second half a bit more brightly and equalised as Nick Ellis followed up his initial shot to slot home. Instead of galvanising Sutton to go on and create more chances the equaliser seemed to make Sutton take their foot of the gas allowing Colchester to score almost immediately. Sutton went down to 10 again this season and this allowed Colchester to control the play. Sutton gambled and pushed on but didn't really threaten the Colchester goal. Colchester scored a break away goal to make it 3-1 and kill Suttons dream of finding an equalising.
