The trophy win last Sunday seemed to give Sutton new confidence as they picked up their first league win of the season away to St Ives on Saturday. Sutton started the brighter, passing the ball with pace and precision with great work from Ashley Taylor finding lots of space down the right. Sutton deservedly opened the scoring through the impressive Josh Fyson, smashing a short corner rebound almost through the St Ives keeper. Sutton lost Featherstone to injury after 15 minutes, which meant the remainder of the game Sutton played without a sub. St Ives looked dangerous on the counter attack, soon equalised and then added a second to go in front. This didn't dent Sutton's confidence one bit as their communication and movement were constantly on song and causing havoc for the St Ives defence. It was no surprise when the impressive Gary Hales equalised after some great work by Ellis and Taylor. Sutton then added a third and took the lead through an unlikely source, the solid Andy Shore 'directing' Sisson's shot into the goal. 3-2 half time. After the break Sutton began to dominate possession, Harrison and Ellis working tirelessly in the midfield and the defence playing it around the back well. Fyson came close to a fourth, another sweet strike from a short corner narrowly going wide. Hales and Allen were spreading the St Ives defence with their movement allowing Sutton to create more chances. Fyson did add his second of the game and again a thunderbolt from a short corner to put Sutton 4-2 up. St Ives went down to 9 but still threatened on the break but the excellent Sutton defence thwarted everything. A superb performance from the team gave Sutton a much needed 3 points and the winning  mentality to take into the derby next week against Wisbech. 1pm Peele Leisure Centre.
