With the sun beating down again on Sunday it was St Albans who visited Long Sutton for the first round of the HA Cup. With National League hockey last season for St Albans Sutton would be up against it for from the start. However it was Sutton who took the game to St Albans in the early stages and were unlucky not to have a three nil lead after 20 minutes with some outstanding attacking hockey from Nellis, Hales and Sisson. St Albans started to get more of the ball and show some of their higher league skill and against the run of play opened the scoring. Sutton continued to press St Albans, took possession and still created chances but just lacked that killer edge in front of goal. St Albans started to show their class and scored another goal. Sutton continued to play some good hockey off their own but again St Albans were more clinical in front of goal and made it three by half time. St Albans were now in full flow but Man of the Match Tom Baguley stood firm and showed his consistent good play by halting many attacks. St Albans scored twice more as Sutton tired but Sutton still continued to play their hockey and when Sisson popped up twice to score it was nothing more than Sutton deserved. An excellent team performance against a very good St Albans team will give Sutton great confidence for the future.
