Long Sutton travelled to Spalding confident for what was set to be an exciting local derby, Suttons 2nd team game and ability have much improved since Spalding and Suttons last meeting, both sides being very closely matched with a controversial flick allowing Spalding to take the win. Unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations. Sutton started strong as did Spalding and the play was end to end with Sutton looking the stronger side for the first 10 mins. But a few mistakes by Sutton allowed Spalding to capitalise slotting home a gifted opening goal, Suttons heads then dropped and they switched off losing focus, leading to what turned into the 2nd teams worst performance to date this season. At half time the score line was 2-0 to Spalding and with Suttons past performances and the play on the pitch it should have been more than possible to turn things round to bring home the points, Sutton again came out of the blocks strong after the team talk in the second half, but soon slipped back into the mindset of the first half conceding 2 more goals, one from a penalty flick and another down to sloppy marking, leaving the pitch at full time 4-0 down. A game to learn from.
