In the only match to survive the weather at the Astro, Sutton 4ths were unlucky to come away defeated.

From the start, Sutton took the game to Alford and through man of the match Steff Fox and Ian White controlled the midfield. Excellent work in defence by Ed Munson and Matt King ensured any early Alford threat was snuffed out.

Up front Ed White, Alex Canham and Dan Fisher worked hard to create openings but a combination of bad luck, disallowed goals and great Alford goalkeeping kept the score goalless at half time.

Alford came into the game more in the second half and whilst Sutton still had the lions share of possession it was Alford who took the lead after a goalmouth scramble. Sutton pushed on in search of an equaliser and were unlucky not to be level when a goalbound Canham effort struck a defender on the shoulder, fortunately he was unhurt.

Pushing forward left gaps at the back for Sutton and Alford exploited these to score a second just before the final whistle to give a very cruel look to the final result.

Report by Alex Canham.
