Emmie Gittins profile

It was a case of deja vu for Long Sutton this week, having travelled to Pelicans before Christmas and coming away with a draw, they had to again settle for a draw this time around, having failed to score against a dogged Pelicans side. Sutton started well and took the game to Pelicans, enjoying much of the possession. With a slight change to the formation, with the impressive Jemima Dodd missing this week due to school commitments, Amber Jones was called into left midfield and acquitted herself superbly with the ever running of Emmy Gittins and Katie Collingwood-Smith for company. Numerous chances were created but went begging with Connie Gittins and Hannah Baker going agonisingly close. Any forays forward by the Pelicans side were comfortably dealt with by the back four of Lisa Baker, Tania White, the excellent Maisie Sullivan and Jess Burton, with Gemma Parr marshalling in front. Half time came with the score locked at 0-0. The team talk calm, about not having done much wrong and to continue in the same vein, it was felt that the goals would inevitably come. However the second half continued to see Pelicans frustrate Long Sutton and they themselves went close to scoring when a ball was pushed underneath Wallis but luckily rebounded off the post. With sub Charlotte Walsh coming off the bench Sutton continued to push but the goal remained elusive. A slightly disappointing result after the high of last week but onwards and upwards to next week which sees Sutton travel to Dereham to try to avenge the defeat earlier in the season and see them retain the possession of third spot in the table which would represent and extremely successful season.
