MATCH REPORT

After a frustrating result last week we were hoping to make use of our home advantage. On a warm day, and with a vital last minute sub (thanks Claire!) our "Long Sutton" cheer showed how serious we were to give Nomads a very competitive game. Nomads had the first push back but Lisa soon won the ball and started to drive it up the left. This led to some good attacking play, but we couldn't get it in the D.

Luck was against us and we couldn't stop the ball hitting our feet in the D. We faced several defensive short corners. Lisa and Hannah Burton were quickly out to intercept the ball, and with some saves from Emily we were able to prevent them scoring. While clearing the ball on the left Maisie was tackled and the ball travelled up the opposition player's stick and into her nose. We had a short break while she subbed off to get treatment. Play was end-to-end and we all covered a lot of ground. Jess, Amber and Emma were back to defend when needed and Half time came and it was 0-0.

We had the first push back but Nomads soon won the ball back. They were very quick and attacked in numbers. We faced yet more short corners but Maisie was so fast out Nomads didn't get a chance to touch the ball before she'd cleared it. Nomads had the best of the chances, but lucky for us when they broke they were unable to capitalise. We didn't want to concede late on like last week and we were able to keep our concentration to keep them out.

Towards the end we were getting desperate and started to drive forward to get closer to their D, but we just couldn't get that final touch. The game ended 0-0. Everyone had worked so hard. The commitment was immense. The determination the entire team had to defend and try to make it to their goal was impressive. Everyone gave 100%. Player of the match was Emily Braginton who made countless saves to keep a clean sheet and get us a draw.
