Unlike our last encounter with Bourne, where we fielded 8 players away in horrendous weather, this time we had a 12-strong squad and beautiful sunshine. We set out to mark closely, close them down, make it to the ball and win short corners. We worked hard at those things today and it really paid off.

We held them for most of the first half and we made some excellent runs up the wings, Amelia on the right and Hannah Baker on the left. We won short corners and we came close to scoring several times. Not long before the half time whistle Bourne attacked from the top of the D and hit the ball towards the left post. Unfortunately it deflected off Hannah Burton's stick and into the goal. 1-0 to Bourne.

Half time came. We'd played well and having a sub was helping to keep fresh legs. Just a few gaps in the middle to cover. Same again for the 2nd half. We won a few short corners. The first few unfortunately didn't hit the target, but when Amber passed out to Lisa, Lisa took it and smashed it straight into the goal. We were ecstatic! 1-1.

We just needed to hold on and try to get another goal if we could. At times even Rachael was driving up the right and towards their D. Everyone really wanted to get something from this game, and we were picking up the ball much better in the middle. With a couple of minutes to go Lauren gave away a short corner on the edge of the D. A couple more corners later and the whistle went to signal the last moments of the game. The whole Bourne team covered the edge the D. It was nerve-wracking and Becky, Lauren, Lisa and Amber got ready to sprint back from halfway to help defend. Bourne struck the ball and it went into the goal. Confusion ensued. After some discussion the decision came that the strike had been too high. No goal and final whistle. 1-1 draw. A hard-earned point for us. Player of the match was Jess Burton for her tireless running and some great tackling and winning the ball in the middle of the pitch.
