A second team with lots of new faces took to the pitch on Saturday against Bourne Deeping thirds. After a successful start to Back to Hockey the season started not only with a full squad but substitutes too. The mix of experience and youth proved to be an excellent combination as everyone settled with their new team mates and the first goal was scored by Alex Petty. With most of the goals coming from open play as Amber Jones put in hard work in the mid field both in defense and attack, Long Sutton continued to capitalise on an enthusiastic start. The midfield linked well with Connie and Emmy Gittins who continued to make good runs into the circle allowing Connie to get a brace of goals . New face Kia backed up play and provided valuable support in defence when the opposition made a break. The defence remained solid throughout and sustained some well worked short corners from the opposition keeping the scoreline looking healthy for the home side. While short corners were harder to convert for Sutton the goals continued to flow with Petty grabbing three more, Mel Franklin converted two on her debut for the team and Heather Ludlam didn't want to miss out on the goal flurry grabbing herself a goal too. At the end of the game more goals had been scored than the ladies 2s had players last season and a 9-0 win is a great start to their campaign. Report by Becky Hales.
