22nd Oct 2016 Ladies 2nd - Home vs Leadenham 1

Long sutton ladies second team travelled away to Lincoln to play Woodhall Spa. Our defence was lacking some key players this week and with our goal keeper Emily out of action due to injury, we conceded a goal quickly, caught off guard by an experienced Woodhall attacking side. Emile courageously volunteered to have a go in goal and made some fantastic saves keeping Sutton in the game. As we settled into the game, a strong midfield lead by Amber Jones and Connie Gittins saw numerous opportunities start to open. A short corner awarded to Sutton produced our first goal, fired into the back of the goal by Issy Oldershaw-Ellis. A second short corner awarded minutes later produced our second goal of the game in a very similar fashion to the first. The Sutton midfield continued to attack the Woodhall defence producing some fantastic team play and a cross ball from Connie to Jenny waiting on the goal line produced our third goal of the first half. A quick change of goalie at half time saw Katie padded up and Emile slot into right back. Sutton's determination saw a further 4 goals scored, 3 from Melissa Franklin and 1 more for Issy, resulting in a final score of 7-2. The team had their best game yet, and continue to go from strength to strength each week. Many thanks to Jill for umpiring.
