Long Sutton Ladies 2nd XI took on Bourne Deeping 2nd XI at home today in their opening game of the season. The first 15 minutes both sides were equally matched with the midfielders Ali Monaghan, Sally Hoyles and Rhian Goodge taking charge in the middle of the pitch and Katie Collingwood Smith and Hannah Baker running tirelessly down the Wings. But Sutton eventually could not keep out Bourne Deepings forwards as they conceded 2 quick goals taking them to an unfortunate 2-0 down going into halftime. Team talk over going into the 2nd half with a few minor changes implemented Sutton once again started well, but again the defence Lucy Smith, Daisy Rummery and Lisa Baker found themselves working well with their keeper Emily Braginton to keep the score at 0-2. Sutton were awarded their fair share of short corners but could not convert any until the last 10 minutes when they won another attacking short corner and finally scored their goal through a rebound which Lisa Baker put away. Sutton finished 2-1 down but can take a lot of positives out of today's game and should all feel proud with all the effort they put into the game, we may have only had 10 players but we gave the performance of a squad. Let's go into Training this week with positives to work on. MoM could have been awarded to a number of players, one of whom probably can't remember the last time she had one let alone all the new rules that have come into the game since she last played but this week it goes to Lucy Smith for her work in defence. Onwards to next week where we are away to Leadenham.
