Sutton went away to play Spilsby at Skegness. They were only 9 players strong this week due to some unavailabilities but this would not deter them. Sutton Started the game Strong and with intent having decided not to defend. Sutton played some great hockey in the first half with the forwards/Midfielders Georgina Synnott, Hannah Baker, Katie Collingwood Smith, Ali Monoghan and Lisa Baker being unlucky to not have scored from a number of their attacking short corners. Spilsby's keeper having an awesome game kept them at bay. Being as supported as they were from the back line Lucy Smith, Emma Grosvenor and Claire Smith starting a number of the attacks with determination. Working tirelessly to keep out the 3 defensive short corners with the addition of Lisa Baker and the first time strikes thwarted by Emily Braginton. They managed to go into to halftime 0-0 all was to play for in the Second half. After a quick discussion and small adjustment to the 2 midfielders Lisa and Ali. Sutton again piled on the pressure. Again they worked tirelessly down both wings to gain attacking short corners which were kept out by the Spilsby keeper until a rebound off her pads landed with Lisa who reversed swept into the path of the awaiting Katie Collingwood Smith who fought to get it across the line to go 1-0 up. This help Lifted the spirits of Sutton and they worked tirelessly to try and keep possession to get to the end of the match. However, as the legs got heavier it was harder to keep higher up the pitch and passes were harder to make. With only a minute-ish to go, they couldn't quite clear the ball from the top of the defensive D and could not keep out across from the baseline of the towards to P spot where 3 Spilsby attackers were waiting and managed to score from close range. The final whistle went a minute later and the Final score was 1-1. Sutton will go into to next Sat morning against Woodhall Spa taking many positives from today.
