The Ladies Second team were away this weekend in their local derby against Spalding Ladies Thirds. After team talks over hash browns at McDonalds on the way, the ladies were fuelled up and ready for the match ahead. However, Skipper spent too long on her eyebrows this morning and forgot to pack her shorts. The first half showed promise from the ever-developing squad with the experienced Hoyles being the brilliant voice on the pitch, sending some lovely passes through to young Cooper, who used her legs to drive the ball up towards the goal. Vice-captain Synnott excelled playing out on the wing today, always there to help drive the ball forward. Sarah Skate and Arnold showed their blossoming confidence in their tackles. The many defensive shorts given in the first half were no match for the keeper with help from her defensive dynamite of Charlotte Walsh, Lynne Braginton, Claire Smith, Lucy Smith, and Julie Skate. Lynne Braginton clearing a corker of a shot, looking at home in her position on the field. However, one unlucky shot slipped past the young skipper.

The squad were on the attack straight from the restart, Whitelam picking up a fantastic ball from Walsh, sprinting down the wing and into the D, unable to get the finish Sutton deserved. The squad recouped at half time full of determination. Skippers Grandad saving the day with the delivery of her shorts. Second half began, Canham working fantastically, shadowing and attacking. Walsh showing her versatility on the pitch moving between the midfield and defence, making herself available and giving options. Lucy Smith gave an outstanding performance in the defence; she was everywhere and was deservedly awarded POTM. The match ended 3-0 to Spalding but the score didn't reflect the how well the team played. The work ethic and progression of this team is second to none. Well done Ladies – you are all truly amazing!
