Sometimes in life you do not get what you deserve, however sometimes you do and Saturday was one of those days for Long Sutton.

With the Halloween Party later that evening the weather at the Astro resembled that of your standard Horror Movie; cold, driving rain meeting the visitors from Dereham. In spite of this, both teams started the game well with some good expansive hockey in both halves with Dereham having the better of the earlier exchanges however Sutton had chances and it was them who took the lead through Sam Markillie following good work from Josh Baker. This buoyed the young team and they could have extended their lead before half time but it was Dereham who deservedly scored next to make the scores level at the break.

After an honest talk at half time during the Sutton monsoon Sutton started the second half with a stronger focus and played some of their best hockey of the season so far. They created chances and defended well in front of the excellent Whitmore in goal. The rain abated but the Sutton pressure did not and they scored 3 unanswered goals in the 2nd half with Markillie scoring following work from Fox, Baguley setting up Jackson to score and Jacob Synott scoring following a Fox short corner.

Sutton managed the game well through to the end especially after Dereham finished the match with 9 players on the pitch, however the reduction in numbers as not the cause of the result – this one was down to the performance of the young Sutton team – #FactsareFacts, they are improving by the week.
