Sutton went into this fixture optimistic of adding to their points total but wary of a St Neots side whose results have been mixed this season. The game started well with both teams looking to begin on a positive footing, however it was St Neots who took the lead after some loose defending from Sutton. Saints made it 2-0 as Sutton retreated into their shell a little and whilst they rallied a little after Josh Baker reduced the arrears with an excellently executed short corner, the away side scored again to take a two goal margin into half time. Sutton spoke honestly at half time and looked to reduce the arrears in the second half; sadly though St Neots had not read the script and 3-1 quickly became 6-1 as they found the key to unlocking the entire Sutton team and used it at will. Brad Whitmore in goal had an excellent performance and should be credited for keeping the score lower than it could have been. To their credit, Sutton continued to fight and Harry Synott reduced the arrears once again following sharp work from Sam Markillie; any thoughts of a comeback were extinguished when Saints scored their 7th and all that was left was for Sutton to get the last goal with Alex Canham scoring an well directed deflected finish following a good ball from Ed White. 7-3 the final score; not what they wanted but probably what they deserved.
