Sutton went into the game buoyed from last weeks performance and hoping to add to their points tally. Norwich were the rivals when Sutton won their first points of the season and in the reverse fixture the 14 man squad were met by a bare 11 travelling players. Sutton started well and whilst the quality was not as high as last week their domination soon resulted in an opening goal from Josh Baker. To their credit Norwich rallied and pressed Sutton, with their young central midfielder looking like a player with great potential, however Whitmore was on good form from the start and was determined not to be beaten so protected his clean sheet. In fact it was the home team who added to their lead after Nick Ellis deflected Dan Battens well driven shot beyond the excellent Norwich keeper. Half-time 2-0. Captain Fox ‘explained' where he felt the team were going wrong at the break and the second half started with a little more structure and urgency injected into the side. Sutton pushed the tiring Norwich side back and it was no surprise when the lead became 3 after Baker took his second goal of the game. With the home side carrying a few injuries it was no surprise that the game meandered to a close with the only action of note seeing Baker claim his hat-trick to make the final score 4-0 and to add a Jug to the cup cakes as items his exploits have cost him this season so far. Not a performance for the highlight reel but a very mature performance to see out a comfortable win that keeps the team heading in the right direction.
