Last game before Christmas and Sutton travelled to Kettering. Missing Josh Baker, Harry and Jacob Synott Sutton were please to welcome Will White back from University and Luke Jackson who stepped up to help from the 2nd team. The squad were hopeful but a little nervous as they set up against a side they have always struggled to get anything from. Despite this, Sutton started the game well with some smart passing hockey and excellent defensive pressing; the visitors had a number of chances with the Kettering keeper excellent in denying them the lead. Batten, Canham, Taylor and Jackson all had chances but the goal did not come. Then the inevitable happened………………………………..a break, confusion and a goal against. Sutton tried to get back in the game, however were left at halt time wondering how they could be 4-0 behind. Sutton tried to start the 2nd half and get back into the game but soon conceded another goal, but then we were reminded that it's the most wonderful time of the year…………………………. Every Friday night during the hockey season for the last 15 years Tiny Stef has gone to bed dreaming of scoring a goal for the first team, many visits to Santa and putting it on his Christmas list and it never being under his tree on Christmas morning. Then yesterday it happened……….Santas helper Batten wrong footed the Kettering defence and slipped it to Fox who finished with a one handed reverse stick deflection ………………………………Truly a Christmas Miracle. The final score was 8-1 but I think we can all agree the message we can all take from this game is that if you stay on the good boy list eventually Santa will reward you!
