Sutton travelled to St Ives a place where in a normal season they usually struggle to come away with anything so this year it was always going to be a tough ask. With a squad of twelve Sutton started the game well with Fox restored to the defence and Ellis alongside Jacob Synott in midfield; Ed White was restored to the flanks to add support to the full backs. Sutton looked structured in defence with Harry Synott and Tom Burton ably supporting Fox and Baguley in the middle; the defence was helped by intelligent midfield play by Jacob Synott and Ellis with Baker, Canham, Taylor, Collingwood Smith and White pressing high up to restrict time on the ball for the opposition. Whilst both teams had chances the score remained 0-0 at half time. Sutton started well in the second half and whilst struggled to put together significant time on the St Ives D, they did ensure the home defenders remained alert. Then after some excellent work from Ed White the ball made its way to Baker who despatched it well into the net, 1-0 Sutton. This raised St Ives and they piled the pressure on Sutton to search for an equaliser which eventually came after their winger got behind the Sutton defence to cross it for an easy finish 1-1. Sutton heads did not drop and 10 minutes from the end Baker cut into the D following a mazy run and as he was winding up to finish was tripped from behind and was awarded a flick which he duly despatched. 2-1 Sutton. St Ives pushed on again, Sutton defended well again and despite a couple of scares and a lates short corner held firm and won three points on the road. A good performance – well played guys.
