If there was a way to end the first half of the season a local derby at spalding is certainly the way to do it. A strong side welcomed back Matt Holmes from injury and Cameron Ibrahim.

The opening exchanges didn't go as Sutton would've hoped and soon found themselves 2-0 down after lapses in the Sutton defence allowed two easy chances to be capitalised. It would seem after conceding the second is when long Sutton woke up and started to put there mark on the game. It would be 2 minutes later that Josh Baker would halve the arrears working the ball well past the keeper. With the majority of the play now in Sutton's favour for the remainder of the half With Spalding unable to control the Sutton high press and chances soon came with an array of short corners and chances at goal. It would be with 5 minutes of the half left that Josh Fyson would level the scores from a short corner. Half time. 2-2

An honest team talk of a team that didn't offer everything that they could've and should of in the first half. The men in green set to right these wrongs in the second half and started brightly in the opening 15 minutes with the majority of the play in and around spaldings 25 with fyson baker and Micheal Donaghy all coming close. In unfortunate circumstances the last 20 minutes were a touch and go affair, Brad Sargeant and Dom Ibrahim both being shown yellow cards and it would be during this period that Spalding would retake the lead from a short corner. Then in typical Sutton fashion they were ready for the fight and again would mount pressure in spaldings half and in turn lead to a yellow for spaldings centre back which led to an onslaught. Only spaldings keeper who was on fine form fine form that would prevent baker from adding more to the score sheet on multiple occasions. His second eventually would come with 10 minutes to play. Then finally 5 minutes later Josh fyson would score from top d to give Sutton the lead for the first time. The side would defend hard and see out the dying stages of the game. Game ended 4-3 to Sutton

And so that wraps up tour first half of the season. A season of a mixed bag of results a couple of what if and maybes for some and a couple of great escapes in others. Overall a solid start for a side who have now cemented their place in the league and look to go higher after Christmas.
