Match week 4 brought with it a tasty little local derby under the Friday night lights for our boys in green! The lads have been making slow and steady progress all through pre-season as the first couple match weeks, and the hard work paid off in last week's first win of the season! They were confident heading into this one, that they could upset their local rivals from just over the Cambridgeshire border

After an early arrival time and plenty of time for a good warmup, the boys were ready to go. Both sides started well out of the blocks but it would be the home side getting on the scoreboard first. Within the first 15, they found themselves 3-0 up and the travelling side were left floundering. However, slow starts are to Long Sutton as Fish is to chips. A match made in heaven. This, therefore, was no unfamiliar territory for our boys… it just meant they needed to work out to play hockey pretty sharpish! And that they did! Wisbech would go goalless throughout the rest of the half, with Sutton picking one up for themselves through a Fyson drag flick. HT 3-1

Sutton rallied themselves at the half time team talk for a big 35 minutes. It was important not to conceded early again and make sure we got ourselves on the front door first… 4-1!!! Ah, once again, Wisbech had found the back of the net. The comeback task being made just that little bit harder! Nonetheless, the boys have always said this is an entertainment business, and that it was! Sutton pushed back the Wisbech forays and began to have large chunks of possession themselves. The back line of Oldfield, Donaghy, Fyson & Proctor solidified and it was becoming hard for Wisbech to do much damage. They were linking up much better with the midfield of Ibrahim, Gray, East & Taylor. Another short corner was then won thanks to great work from wide player Sargeant and it was Fyson to produce a rocket to the top right! 4-2

Sutton were really pressing now through the brilliant work rate of the high players Taylor, Watt, Ellis & Plant. Chances were coming quickly and it wasn't long until a ball played through from Taylor found Watt for a first time finish! 4-3! Another string of shorts resulted in a finish from Taylor to level the scores but he was later adjudged to have kicked the ball!!! Sutton kept pushing but a last days up the pitch resulted in a short for Wisbech! After a few routines, they eventually managed to score one past POTM Cliff. FT 5-3

This was as good a proof of any that there isn't a side in this league that the lads can't compete against or even beat! Taking it to the league leaders like they did, and if it wasn't for the classic Sutton slow start, who knows what could have been achieved?!?!
