The M1s returned to HQ for a big game in the fight for the top spots in the league table. They were keen to bounce back after last week's defeat on the road. With a strong 12, they were all up for the fight. The game started well with a long period of Sutton dominance. However, after the first 15, the score line remained goalless. The first goal would come through Fyson however. A drag flick deflected into the goal by an Ely player. 1-0. This got Sutton going a little more and they started to bang on the door. A quick turnover from East inside the opposition D fell for Baker to strike on his backhand to double the lead for the Greens. It wasn't much later that a mazy run from Gray down the left flank ended with a perfect through ball to Baker who could unleash first time on his backhand once more. 3-0. The half was petering out but Ely would snatch a goal just before the halftime whistle. 3-1 HT

The second half started similar to the first. The green side spent some time looking for the first goal of the half. A counter attack after a turnover in our own D resulted in a sideline ball, worked well across the top of the D for the awaiting Fyson to smash the ball into the goal to increase the score line to 4-1. However, Ely weren't done there and once again kept their noses in the game. The fifth goal for Sutton was to fall for Taylor to tap home after a long run through the D from Baker to once again assist the number 27. From here the game looked just about done for the home side but they still wanted more. A long ball down the right flank was perfect for Baker to latch onto in the D as he cut inside and made it a hat trick on his backhand. As the game slowly came to a close, East was keen to get in on the action. He scored probably the best individual goal of the lot after rounding 3 Ely players and finishing cleverly into the bottom right corner. The full time whistle was then sounded and the home side had won 7-2.

POTM was Donaghy for his efforts in the back line. A work horse in the heart of the Sutton defence, sniffing out any attack that came his way. A big one next week for the 1st team as they travel to face second placed March!
