Long Sutton managed to pick up an away league win at the third time of asking with a good performance in the second half after below par opening to the game. Sutton opened tentatively, again struggling to adapt to a pitch that was slower than anticipated. The away defence were called upon to make some early tackles with Dan Oldfield and Simon Clarke reunited to form a solid central defence. Adam Taylor had arrived in good time determined to continue the quite good form of his previous appearance and sprayed passes from right back in all directions!. The short passing in midfield and upfront failed to link as hoped and Sam Markillie and Will White had to put in some good tackles in midfield. It was the hosts that took the lead as the ball fell to an unmarked forward who finished well. This seemed to galvanise the away side and they began to string together some better passing movements to begin to achieve more attacking threat, Tyler Hagan was denied by a good save after a quick move down the right. The equaliser came from a corner as Nick Ellis took the ball to the right before firing against the top of the backboard. After half time Sutton opened with intent and took the lead within a minute a flowing move finished off by a confident strike from Josh Baker. The visitors then began to find their flow keeping possession and attacking the home circle with increasing regularity. The lead was extended when Ellis was able to dribble past the keeper and flick past the defender on the line. Sutton continued to press with Baker and Hagan working well in tandem, Jacob Synnott and Josh Ripley were solid as always down the left tackling well and distributing calmly and accurately when in possession. Adam Sisson answering a late call give a very good account of himself on the right of midfield helping his right back on a number of occasions. The game was secured when Ellis finished from the angle at a corner after a pass from Markillie. Sutton saw out the game with Brad Whitmore enjoying a quiet second period in the goal. Man of the match was Sam Markillie with another all action display. Sutton entertain City of Peterborough on Saturday looking to maintain their fine home record.
