MATCH REPORT
LSHC Mens' Second v Cambridge City 5s
Played Away on 12th January 2019It was always going to be tough to gain 3 points away to Cambridge City with their home record of wins very much intact.
The new pitch had been freshly laid to mark the record of play during the game, not use to such a bouncy new pitch the team quickly adapted to its style.
Long Sutton Dominated play for the first 20 minutes of the game, McKenzie and H Bragington working tirelessly on the wings and perfectly timed aerial balls from the ever impressive Fyson and Harrison gave the Sutton forwards plenty of changes to try out the City Keeper. It was after 10 mins when Fyson delivered a 30-yard pass to Jackson who was at the edge of D to neatly deflect it past the Keeper. 1-0.
The ease of play soon subsided and City turned on the heat and pressured the Sutton Defend. Credit to Sutton's back line, J Bragington, J Ripley and (man of the match) Charlie for his outstanding performance throughout the game. It was late into the first half when City gained their break and equalised with a well worked short corner routine. James C Smith and Jackson shots both narrowly missing either posts before half time.
The team had a tough talk at half time and knew the standard had to reach greater depths to pull of the win.
The game saw both teams battle it out with end-to-end chances. But In the final mins with M Bragington's elite keeping mopping up for Sutton at one end it was Captain L Proctor that would tip the scales of victory and thunderous hitting home the 2-1 win.
