Cambs Uni Sports Ground was the destination this week for Sutton as they took their 100% record on the road to play against Cambs City. Sutton arrived confident at the seat of learning and were met by some outstanding new state of the art facilities that only go to prove you should study hard kids in order to be able to use them. The home side had an experienced squad of 16 some of whom had played at a much higher level in their youth; indeed even though they may be older now they clearly had not lost it! Sutton had youth on their side including debutants Josh Smith and Josh Norey as well as Ben Hales; the young players did themselves proud and worked very hard for the team in what was a difficult game. Cambs started well and Sutton struggled to get a handle on the game or to exert any consistent control. In patches Sutton played well but those patches were too few and far part to make any consistent periods of pressure. Neither side really made any chances in the first half due to a mix of good defending and poor link up play and at half time the score was 0-0, with the stand out players in the Sutton team being Simon Clarke, Tom Baguley and Stef Fox. The half time lecture was duly attended but sadly too many of the students failed to do their homework in the second half and when Sutton were met with their one real examination of the half, the travelling side failed and went a goal down. On a windy day, Sutton huffed and puffed as they tried to find an equaliser and on another day one of the couple of chances they fashioned would have been scored, however it was not to be and a honest report of the day would say could do better and got what they deserved. It is important to remember we are 7 matches into the season and this is the first points the team have dropped, so whilst disappointing it needs to be seen as a wake-up call rather than a death knell. We go again next week. .
