Sutton's fourths opened their campaign with a deserved draw in their longest away trip of the season. With both teams fielding some new faces, it was not surprising that this was an open game. Jack Smith opened the scoring for Sutton and looked set for a big day, but every time the home defence was carved open by the industrious Will Taylor, Louth responded, converting almost every chance they created. Chris Worth found himself in the opposition D, remembering where the goal was in time to sweep home and Ian White scored from a short corner, but still Sutton trailed at the half 4-3. In the second half the defences reasserted themselves, but with Taylor's deserved goal and White's second short corner strike, the visitors felt they had secured the points, until Louth's late response restored parity. Josh Ripley once again looked composed and confident in defence and James Collingwood-Smith made a very promising debut, although Long Sutton's man of the match performance came from another young player making his senior bow. Jacob Synnott took the step up from juniors in his stride, tackling securely, passing with authority and marauding forwards when circumstances allowed.
