Womens 2nd XI vs Wisbech Town 3s

In the midst of storm Amy, Long Sutton ladies 2's welcomed Wisbech Ladies 3's on Saturday hoping to retain their unbeaten start to the season. With GK Wallis ruled out due to injury, up-stepped Sophie Clarke, for her league debut. Sutton began confidently, but it was soon apparent that this was a much tougher Wisbech side than they had met in pre-season. Sutton's defence of Warby, Fox, Skate and Grosvenor held firm with Clarke in goal making some super saves. However the pressure told and Wisbech were able to find the back of the net, to take a lead in the tie. Sutton are made of stern stuff, however, and did not let their heads drop. The mid-field trio of Whittaker (K), Tegerdine and Perowne were working tirelessly, to link defence into attack. A ball that was destined to go off the back-line, was stopped by Whittaker (A), holding up play before slotting the ball back for Gaborit-Carter to slot neatly through the keepers legs. 1-1. Sutton continued to work hard with Blundy- Gent linking well with Gaborit-Carter and Canham to try and fashion another opportunity, however it was not to be and the half ended all square.

The second half was much the same story but Wisbech were able to pin Sutton back more and took the lead despite the best efforts of the defence and Clarke in goal. They further extended the lead shortly after a super reflex save by Clarke fell unkindly to another Wisbech attacker to slot home. Sutton continued the fight though and they were unlucky not to reduce the deficit when a super solo run and shot from Gaborit-Carter went narrowly wide with the Wisbech keeper stranded. With further saves from Clarke, the game ended with Wisbech as 3-1 winners, but this was no easy victory and every single Sutton player can hold their heads high knowing that they had left everything on the pitch.

POTM votes was closely contested by Blundy-Gent, Clarke and Gaborit-Carter, but for the second week running the accolade went to Gaborit-Carter.

Next week Sutton travel to Cambridge to take a new opposition in Cambridge Nomads 2's
