Womens 2nd XI vs Cambridge Nomads 2s

The choice for the ladies 2’s this week was to either travel with 9 or concede the tie,lose 5-0 and lose a valuable point……. What do you think this courageous side decided? Of course they did! Travel with 9

With the warm up done and the tie ready to start the umpire asked if Sutton were expecting some latecomers? Alas no one was expected to make up a full side but the umpire should not have feared. Sutton set out to defend resolutely! GK Sophie Clarke was excited to play with 9 and face whatever was coming. She did so with Gusto and some amazing point blank saves. Penny Perowne was as determined as ever and fired some lovely through balls to our lone forward Lily Clarke who put in a sterling performance giving absolutely everything to get on the end of those balls and hold up play to allow Sutton to move up the pitch. Sarah Skate outnumbered on numerous occasions played valiantly and found some super last ditch tackles to thwart the Nomads attack.

Wendy Canham defended as if her life depended on it having her best performance ever, stopping a number of almost certain goals, on occasion putting her body on the line!

Alison Whittaker playing in an unfamiliar role in midfield linked defence to attack and ran herself almost to blackout.

Katie Whittaker tackled ferociously in the centre of midfield linking well with Jasmin Gaborit-Carter, keeping possession well

Jasmin had another storming game breaking through on more than one occasion and was extremely unlucky not to produce her third goal of the season.

The fact that it took Nomads 34 minutes and 59 seconds to breach the resolute Sutton tells you all you need to know!

Despite the fact that Nomads went on to add a further 3 goals early in the second half Sutton never stopped running and fighting and can be extremely proud of their performance.

Final score a 4-0 loss on paper but a victory in every other way.

POTM-Everyone! But awarded to Sophie Clarke who has tackle on the mantle of second team GK with amazing resilience and a little bit of madness!
