Long Sutton Ladies 2's entertained Bourne Deeping 3rds in what was a great game of hockey. Long Sutton settled early and played some superb hockey but where unfortunate not to score early, with Jemima Dodd, Katie Collingwood Smith and Georgina Synnott linking together for some good play, but where unable to convert their chance. Sutton managed to win a number of short corners, the first of which was expertly injected, stopped and fired off through Hannah Baker, Maisie Sullivan and Sally Hoyles, although the 2nd and 3rd routines were new to them and will require some more attention in training. As the weeks go by we can see they thrive on learning's gained through midweek training. With Lucy Smith providing a steady head down the right hand side to avoid a counter attack shortly before Half time, Long Sutton went into the break 0-0. With what was a positive team talk at half time and few tweaks here and there, Sutton took to the pitch and were immediately caught off guard when Emily Braginton found here self somewhat busy for the first time in the game. However, the defence rode the attack and dealt with the issue at hand and turned defence into attack. In the counter attack from this Rhian picked the ball up from the defence and provided a well-timed cross for Katie to shoot which went slightly wide but found George on the right post for a reverse stick deflection giving them a 1-0 lead. Bourne Deeping responded keenly but where once again thwarted by the defence. Each of the defence were able to take the opportunity to make their own runs through midfield this week supporting their forwards with superb force, one of which provided Katie with a good ball down the middle who in turn provided Hannah with a through ball which she then ran down the Right to pass on to Lynne Braginton who fired her shot only for the keeper to make a timely save, however Sally was quick to return the rebound once again this was saved by the keeper but the 3rd attempt from Katie was swept home to give them a 2-0 lead. Giving Bourne the credit they deserved with 10 players there was still plenty of End to End hockey. Sutton wanted the game more and was successful once more through great link up play from midfield of Rhian, George and Katie finishing off with her 2nd of the game giving them the 3-0 win. Sutton will have some work to do midweek in readiness for their visit to Spalding next week but can take many positives from this great team effort and performance and with a great mixture of youth and experience should go into the rest of the season knowing more performances like this can be more rewards.
