Long Sutton travelled to local rivals Spalding 3s for a late push back in the floodlights. Quickly Sutton fought and put pressure on to Spalding with some great runs from Katie Collingworth-Smith, Rhian Goodge and Hannah Baker. With several crosses into the D Sutton just couldn't get the final touch to get it to the back of goal. Spalding came back at Sutton quickly on a break scoring from a Sutton deflection. With some wise words from Becky Hales Sutton held their heads up and kept fighting back. Sutton managed to continue to put pressure on Spalding with some great crosses from Sally Hoyles but again couldn't find the goal. With 20 seconds of the first half to go a ball to the knee caused Hannah Baker to go down but she got back up to finish the first half. After half time, with the motivational speeches from Hales and Goodge, Sutton straight away put pressure onto Spalding getting in to D but again not being able to find the back of the goal. Spalding kept coming towards the Sutton goal but thanks to goalie Emily Braginton their shots could not be converted. Sutton had some great runs down the wings from Goodge and Hoyles but again couldn't get into the Spalding goal. With five minutes left Spalding got three consecutive short corners but thanks to Braginton and the defensive back four of Lucy Smith, Daisy Rummery, Claire Smith and Maisie Sullivan Spalding were unable to score from any. The second half was definitely end to end hockey with good pressure from both teams but neither being able to find the goal. With a Hales debrief at the end of the game Sutton hold their heads high ready to take on City of Peterborough 4s at home next week.
