Long Sutton Ladies 2's took a young developing team to play Bourne Deeping 2's. Travelling with 12 players, 7 of them being under the age of 16 and 1 adult not having played hockey for over 30 years Sutton went onto the pitch with fighting spirit. Bourne Deeping took a quick goal to go 1-0 up but Sutton stayed focused and continued to fight. Despite the focus Sutton quickly went down 2-0. With the fighting spirit still standing Sutton pushed on and won a short corner. With some of the team playing unfamiliar positions Daisy Rummery was able to slot home the deflection from the Bourne Deeping goalie. This gave Sutton a bit of fighting spirit but were unfortunate to be 4-1 down at half time. With a half time team talk Sutton started with high spirits and were not letting the Bourne Deeping players get passed. The solid defence of Lucy Smith, Claire Smith, Maisie Sullivan, Jemima Dodd and the superb goalie Emily Braginton saw several short corners be awarded to Bourne Deeping with some excellent stops from all involved. Despite the fight Bourne Deeping were able to get a lucky attack and slotted home a goal to make it 5-1. Hannah Baker made some positive runs on the attack and had a quick shot at goal but was unlucky to see it slide past the post. Despite the loss, Sutton took some positives from the game but also some areas where the training needed to be developed. With a slip date next weekend Sutton turn their focus to the rearranged game in 2 weeks.
