PROMOTION PARTY FOR SUTTON

Sutton travelled to Cambridge for the finale of the 23/24 season knowing that any points would promote them to Div 1N status next season. A squad of 15 made the journey, followed by a number of travelling supporters to whom we are incredible grateful too.

The game started in typical fashion with green dominance. Proctor was first on scoresheet, reacting well to finish off a rebound from a penalty corner. Baker came next deflecting home another penalty corner routine. Unfortunately, the defence was breached towards the end of the half as City added their first. Sutton responded well and it was the duo of Batten and Baker who linked up on a foray forward and it was the later who finished things off. HT 3-1

The second half got underway and Sutton came out the blocks hard and fast. It wasn't long before Fyson scored his first, rounding the runners on a penalty corner and slotting home smartly. A little more than 5 minutes later, another routine involving East, Fyson and Baker resulted in Baker completing his hat trick. City had got another one to add to their tally but hopes of a comeback were certainly slim. Sutton finished off their scoring through Fyson with another penalty corner, this time pouncing first on the rebound. With 10 minutes to go the away side switched things up. Donaghy, Harrison, Oldfield, Proctor, Gray all heading forward in search of goals. The former came the closest on multiple occasions but just couldn't quite find the back of the net. The Full time whistle blew and a 6-2 win meant Sutton were heading up!

It's been nothing short of a remarkable season. Everyone that has contributed to the teams successes this season have all been invaluable. James Cliff between the sticks making some incredible saves all season long. The regular defence of Dan Oldfield, Michael Donaghy, Joshua Fyson and Luke Proctor have proved crucial to the team and have made it so tough all season for teams to score against them. Midfielders, James Harrison, Sam Gray, Dom Ibrahim and McKenzie East have been glorious to watch, setting up countless opportunities forward. The wide men of Oliver Taylor, Frazer Watt, Dan Plant and Nick Ellis have been superb in how they've worked all season long, scoring and assisting throughout. Josh Baker, Brad Sargeant and Dan Batten scoring big goals up front and setting up plenty. Steff Fox, Will Taylor and Luke Jackson all made appearances along the way and their contributions shall not go missed. Finally, we've had brilliant support all season. Having so many travelling supporters as well as at home is what makes this hockey family incredible.

Onto the 24/25 season now. Who knows what will be in store. Who cares? One things for sure is whatever happens, good or bad, this family will enjoy the ride wherever they go!
