Long Sutton Ladies 1's travelled to Peterborough to play table topping City of Peterborough 2's. This was always going to be a tough ‘backs to the walls' match and so it proved. The match started evenly with most of the play in midfield whoever COP forced the first short corner after 4 minutes. As with the home fixture, the Sutton defense held strong and cleared the ball. The first goal of the game could have been avoided on 14 minutes but the ball was never cleared and the forward spun the ball from the by-line into the goal. COP continued to attack and a double save by MOM Lorraine Wallis stopped the score from growing. The game settled into a battle of wills and skills and so it took Peterborough another 13 minutes before they scored from a good breakdown of a Sutton attack passing around the defenders and finally past Wallis.

Lorraine Wallis continued to make smothering saves when called upon and the midfield duo of Gemma Parr and Sarah Walker were stopping as much as possible feeding the ball to Emmy & Connie Gittins to run on to. The game was much the same as the first half and the third goal took a deflection off of a Sutton stick to beat the Sutton Goalkeeper. Sutton had their own chances with Hannah Baker shooting wide and Connie Gittins forcing 3 short corners in quick succession as Sutton refused to give up. Once again, they showed a resilience which has given them so much hope this year. Every single one of them gave their all for the club and they left everything on the pitch. Hopefully, they will take this performance into next week and they can bounce back against Newmarket.
