Long Sutton Ladies had no league game this week, as the opposition have pulled out of the league. Upon hearing that local rivals, Wisbech were also in the same position, a friendly was organised.

With a very different line up, Sutton took the game to Wisbech but soon found themselves 1-0 down with a finish giving young Jasmine in goal no chance. Sutton however did not let their heads drop and with the ever- willing running of Lottie Dack down the right, supported in midfield by Amelia Norey and Penny Perowne, started to settle and take the game to Wisbech. A self-pass from a side-line hit was self-taken by Wallis, in a very unfamiliar position, on pitch, and crossed into the D for Wendy Canham, coolly slotting the ball between the GK's legs. 1-1. A break in play ensued when the Wisbech GK suffered an injury and had to be replaced. The half ended 1-1 with Wisbech unable to get past the excellent defensive work of Claire Sisson, Lucy Smith and Julie Skate, although Wallis could count herself lucky not to be sent to the sin-bin for a deliberate foot in the D.

The second half saw Lottie having to take a break, having run herself into the ground, and a re-shuffle to the pack, with George Synnott admirably playing an unfamiliar role in defence and debutant Aimee Betts stepping into mid-field. Sutton struggled a little to retain possession against an experienced side, however the score remained the same, largely due to great defensive work and an assured game in goal by Jasmine Smith. Wisbech did however gain the win from a short-corner move which Sutton were unable to repel and the game finished 2-1 to Wisbech. Sutton can feel extremely pleased with the way they played with every single player stepping up and giving 110% to the cause.

Player of the match went to Lucy Smith for her excellent defensive work and Lorraine Wallis, for running around a bit, something that she isn't used to. Next week back to league action against Pelicans 3's.
