Long Sutton Ladies 2's welcomed Cambs Ladies 6's to the Peele Leisure Centre for their first home game of the season.

Having seen that the opposition had dispatched Peterborough 5's last week, 6-0, the knew that they were in for a tough game. However, as always, they were up for the challenge. With a couple of absentees, they welcomed back Lynne Braginton and Immi Cooper, to give them a squad of 12. Both played as if they had never been away and certainly helped Sutton take the game to Cambs, who it was clear to see, were a very well drilled side.

With the defensive line up of Julie Warby, Lorraine Wallis (yes on pitch) and Lexi Clarke, with Sarah Skate, just in front ably marshalled by the very vocal Ellie Sandall, Sutton were able to contain the attacking force of Cambs. The defence were working hard, to feed the midfield of Katie Whittaker, who Is growing in confidence each week, Lynne Braginton and Lillie Tegerdine. Despite the best efforts of Ellie Sandal, who was meeting the Cambs South attack, confidently, Sutton found themselves a goal behind to a well worked short corner. This soon became two when Cambs broke down a Sutton foray up-field and counter attacked well, finding Sutton light at the back. A further strike from a short corner found Sutton 3-0 down at half-time.

They may have been down at half-time but this team never give up and following a half-time team talk, they came back onto the pitch with smiles on their faces. A slight tweak to the line-up saw Wallis move higher up the pitch. Lexi Clarke was also defending higher up the pitch and working well with Lillie Tegerdine on the right, and Katie Whittaker also working well with Annabelle Giles on the rleft, Sutton were able to feed the forwards of Alison Whittaker, Chantil Sinclair and Immi Cooper. Immi Cooper, especially making some great runs into the D. With a little bit of fortune, Sutton may have grabbed a goal back, but they can be extremely proud of the way they played preventing Cambs South adding to their tally.

Man of the match votes were rightly spread, with every member of the squad having given 110% but it was shared by Sarah Skate, for her fantastic defending, despite not being fully fit, and Immi Cooper for her tireless running and skill in the centre of the attack.

Next week is a local derby against Wisbech 3's. This will also be a tough game, with Wisbech 3's having started the season well, but Sutton will once again be up for it.
