Long Sutton played host to the 2nd round HA trophy on Sunday in a repeat of the league fixture the week before against Bourne Deeping Both side lined it with changes from the league, Deeping more so starting the game with 9 men. The away side managed the situation for the opening exchanges until Fyson slotted home into the corner after his initial effort at a penalty corner had been saved by the keeper. By now the missing 2 players had arrived and it was 11 v 11! The remainder of the half was evenly matched Sutton marginally created the better chances however couldn't convert and scoreline was 1-0 at half time. Sutton slipped into some old ways after the break and conceded 2 goals through sloppy defending and a 3rd after Fox literally put his body on the line to keep out a short corner drag flick. The resulting stroke however was converted. With plenty of time left the home side pulled a goal back. Fyson dribbled into the D seemingly into trouble but the away defence hacked at his stick and stroke was awarded. Fyson stepped up to slot hole low to the keepers right. Sutton built on this and pressured deepings goal and finally found a breakthrough to level the tie 3-3. A penalty corner slipped left to Shore who fired across and Batten deflected home. The game finished 3-3 and with no extra time it was straight to strokes. Cook kicked things off to convert, to which Deeping replied. 1-1 Shore flicked high and over the bar, no mistake from Deeping. 1-2 Fyson slotted in much the same way as his in 70 minutes, Deeping followed suit. 2-3 Gavaghan found the net, Deeping matched to make it 3-4 Final flicks and Hales struck the post meaning Bourne Deeping had won. An unfortunate end result however much to be taken from the spirited fight back from 3-1 down early in second half.
