Sutton made their longest trip for some years to unknown Old Southendians on Saturday for this Div 1 clash. Unfortunately Sutton's performance was abit like the long, dull, weary trip and came away with nothing after such a good performance the previous week. The game started and Sutton struggled to string any play together as a well organised Southendian team sat off them and waited to pounce. The first goal came from Sutton completely switching off allowing a tap in for their oppostion and then again some hasty decisions in the tackle allowed Southendians to overload and again find a free man in the D and make it 2-0. Sutton offered very little going forward which was in complete contrast to last week and only managed a few attempts on the Southendian goal. 2-0 half time. Sutton came into the game a bit more in the second half but couldn't break down a solid Southendian defence and were lucky to only concede one more goal as Southendian's counter attack proved menacing at times. Sutton lacked any real organisation, direction and drive and just couldn't cement any authority on the game. A saturday to forget and time to regroup on Wednesday, ready to put the wrongs of this game right against Upminster.
