The first game of the new 2023/4 season saw The men's 1st secure a well earned point, away at Cambridge South. The traveling green army hadn't captured a point from the Long Road Sixth College in their last 3 meetings at the ground. The game was very much, end to end action, with both teams taking opening chances, but falling short of any results. It would fall to Cams South to open the score line, with a quick counter attack, leading to a tap-in at the back post from an unmarked player. 0-1. Sutton dug deep to bounce back, with a well worked team goal. A venomous Brad Sargeant strike, connecting with Daniel Plant for a wicked deflection which pleasantly surprised Plant and bewildering the South Keeper. 1-1. South continued to overload the middle of the park but the triad of Dom Ibrihim, Sam Gray and Olly Taylor kept these continuous assaults at bay. It would be a perfectly timed, debuting goal for Frazer Watt, with a thunderous shot to push the Sutton Side ahead. 2-1. The game turn hands once more with South pushing the defensive lines of Sutton further back and eventually grabbing an equalizer. 2-2. Some excellent attacking play from Nick Ellis saw chances missed with lack of finishers in the D. James Cliff between the sticks with a good performance but a ropey sliding tackling leading to a short corner in the last few minutes of the game saw Sutton biting their nails. Defensively, an impressive display of fine-art tackling from a Luke Proctor and Micheal Donaghy duo. (Man of the match) a well deserving Josh Fyson produced a display of hockey in its finest form. Flawless throughout and recognized by his team mates. Final Score - 2-2 Man of Match - Josh Fyson Dick of Day - James Cliff Report - Luke JacksonĀ
