MENS 1S GO 5 ON THE BOUNCE!!!

After a 10 goal win last week, the boys geared up for an away trip to local rivals Bourne. It was a 2nd v 4th, top of the table clash and promised to be a much sterner test. Sutton travelled with a healthy squad of 14. Sutto began on the front foot but for the first 10 minutes neither side threatened greatly in front of goal. It would be a penalty corner to break the deadlock. Fyson tucked away a drag flick to put the away side 1 up. Sutton looked more in the drivers seat from here on in. The forward unit of Baker, Plant, Watt, Ellis and Sargeant were creating problems up top and soon enough brought another penalty corner opportunity. Fyson would once again dispatch in his usual fashion to add the second for the Green Army. Sutton had full control now and were beginning to find their rhythm. The midfield of Harrison, Gray, East and Batten were making it tough for the home side to find any success through the centre of the park. After a quick transfer left, the ball would be left for East to drive at pace down the left flank, hit the baseline and find Batten awaiting in front of the goal mouth to convert the sides third. A fantastic solo assist finished with aplomb. The home side would add a goal of their own on the half time whistle thanks to a quality drag flick but this would not deter the men in green. HT: 3-1

The second half began quickly with Sutton straight away penetrating the opposition half. Baker would get himself on the scoresheet early on with a beat deflection thanks to the work of East once again. With numbers on the pitch changing quite frequently, the defence faced a sterner challenge in the second half. However, Oldfield, Donaghy, Fyson, Proctor and Cliff between the sticks were solid and it was going to take something special to get past Cliff in the second half. Some outstanding saves from him kept the home sides total at just 1. It would be Sargeant to convert the fifth with a case of deja vu. Very reminiscent of last weeks goal, he turned back to goal and, in typical Sargeant fashion, hammered the ball into the roof of the net. Fyson would be the culprit for the sixth. Baker picked up the ball with his back turned at the top of the D and (someone really should have checked his temperature at this point) PASSED the ball through the gap to find Fyson in space to complete his hat trick. The boys saw the game out from here to record a 6-1 win on the road!

A massive thanks must once again go to our travelling supporters. For the second away trip on the bounce we've been amazed to see the amount of people making the trip to support us. It is hugely appreciated! POTM was East for a commanding midfield performance. Next week we are home once again for another big match against Peterborough 3s!
