SUTTON SEE OUT EIGHT GOAL THRILLER

The mens 1s travelled to Cambridge this week off the back of their derby win last weekend. The day began with the finest tin filling right up before the game had even began. A forgotten pair of shoes and shorts for Baker and Watt respectively as well as the fines master himself being 27 minutes late to the meet time. The boys awaited his arrival in the changing rooms whilst listening to the soothing sounds of whales to calm the mind of angry man Harrison. This was much to the dismay of Batten who wanted to be angered. Surprisingly, he remained fairly calm throughout the game, despite multiple moments where he topped or completely missed the ball! Anyway, on with the game!

Sutton started fast as usual but posed little threat early doors. Build up play was somewhat slow but the boys grasped a hold of this as the game went on. With Baker having to wear Ellis' size 25s with 4 pairs of socks, he was struggling to get about. However that did not stop him scoring Suttons first after a call from Fyson found Ibrahim who put it on a plate for Baker to finish into an open net. A quick shoe change with Oldfield and Baker was feeling rather lighter!

City weren't to be put down as they clawed one back with an excellent finish into the bottom corner. Sutton responded, attacking the city defence and winning their first short of the day. It was duly dispatched by the reliable Fyson. Once again City fought back. An attack down the right flank won them an upgrade to a short from which they converted. HT 2-2

Half time team talk was constructive but again positive. The boys knew they had plenty of gears to move up and that they could return home with the 3 points. The defence tightened up and Cliff was relatively untroubled in the second half thanks to the sterling work of Oldfield, Donaghy, Fyson, Harrison and Proctor across the back. Although Proctor's game was over 5 minutes into the second half after an awful cough which coughed just a little too hard!

Suttons third came from a ball over the top from Fyson. Baker was able to run onto it and with one touch lobbed the keeper to make it 3. Once again, City responded and scored a well worked goal. 3-3. Sutton continued to fight back again and another upgrade saw them convert their 4th. A second shot from Ellis found Oldfield on the post to tap home for his first of the season. Sutton didn't want to step off the grass however. Multiple hard yards were put in by the likes of East, Gray, Taylor, Batten and Watt who all had their forages forward. The final goal came from a brilliant link up between Baker and Taylor with the later putting the ball across to Ellis who scored with aplomb as the final score read 5-3!

Not the best performance once again but it shows how hard working this side are. Getting the job done on the tough days are the signs of a great side! Up next, St Neots at home before a weeks break!
