Long Sutton got their first win of the season with a last gasp winner having seen Leadenham peg back a two goal lead. Half term availability issues and a late call off meant Sutton arrived with only eleven players. The game opened with Leadenham having the majority of the possession and the visitors adjusting to accommodate a slight change in formation. The home team took the lead after an aerial into the circle was not picked by the visiting defence allowing the forward to turn the ball in. The away team levelled when a good move down the right saw Luke Jackson square for Josh Baker to cleverly deflect home. Leadenham quickly pulled back in front but Sutton were able to equalise as Harry Synnott's goalbound shot was stopped by some excellent footwork from a home defender on the line. Nick Ellis converted the penalty to make the half time scores level. Sutton opened the second period playing some good passing hockey with Synnott and Will White both enjoying good touches. The visitors were awarded a short corner which found it's way back to injector Ed White who slotted in at the back post. The away team added a fourth shortly after a move down the right saw Matt Goodley square the ball the Ellis who slotted the ball past the keeper. The hosts then upped the intensity of their game and despite the efforts of Matt Braginton in the Sutton goal and Tom Burton who made some excellent tackles were able to draw level with two quick goals. The game appeared to be heading for a draw but as the game entered the final minute Goodley released Jackson down the right wing, he outpaced the defender and crossed for Baker who allowed the ball across his body before sweeping in on the reverse stick for the winning goal and the three points. Sutton will need to take this performance into next week and beyond as they look try and climb up the league. Matt Goodley enjoyed his best second team outing so far but Man of the match went to Harry Synnott for a very strong all round game.
