Long Sutton gained revenge for their defeat at Spalding two weeks previously with a comprehensive victory on home turf. Sutton were pleased to welcome back Dan Oldfield who will hopefully provide many outstanding achievements through the season and Adam Taylor who will hopefully provide the bulk of the material for the end of season speech!. The game opened with both sides struggling for consistency but it was the visitors who took the lead as the ball found it's way to the back of the goal. The home team looked for the equaliser almost immediately and the Spalding keeper suffered a seemingly game ending injury whilst making a save, he tried to carry on but Sutton quickly equalised with Nick Ellis taking advantage of the immobile goalie to open his account for the season!. The goalkeeper then decided he was unable to continue, he was briefly replaced by a kicking back before Brad Whitmore who was playing for Sutton 3rds afterwards stepped in to cover. The hosts quickly began to wonder if this was the best decision as Whitmore pulled off a couple of sharp saves to keep the scores level going into the break. The second period began with Sutton attacking only to be denied by some more fine keeping, the visitors then took the lead with a well taken goal that was cleverly lifted over keeper Matt Braginton. This meant the home side had to find their shooting boots and Josh Baker finally managed to get space in the circle and lash home to equalise. Sutton began to play the ball around better with youngsters Will Taylor, Josh Ripley, Jacob Synnott and Harry Braginton all showing touches that bode well for the future. The host took the lead as Ellis slipped the ball home from close range. The game opened up which suited Sutton with Will White breaking forward to good effect and Alex Canham finding lots of space up front in a guest appearance before his return to university. Further goals came as Baker completed his hat trick and Robbie Campbell saw his short corner deflected in even after Sutton were reduced to 10 players following a Simon Clarke hissy fit. The game ended with Sutton finding space on the attack especially after Sam Markillie pushed into midfield and showed his class . The league begins this week with the short trip to Wisbech for a 3.30pm start.
