Sutton entertained Cambs City 6's in what promised to be one of the two biggest games left in Sutton's run in. Sunny skies and a perfect pitch welcomed Cambridge to the Fen Riviera as a focused Sutton side awaited them. Adam Taylor dropping out late in the week due to illness, leaving the remaining regular 12 players. Cambs lined up with a well drilled defence which was well tested as Sutton took the game to the side that had inflicted their only defeat earlier in the season. Batten started well linking with Hagan and Will White to hold the away team in their own 16. Ed White and Stef Fox marshalled the midfield against skilled opponents, Frazer Watt put in his usual shift as he continued to contribute so much unselfish work for this team. This weeks youthful contingent of Ben Hales and Josh Smith both showed how much they had grown as players and improved since the last time the two teams met. Cambs offered little in attack during the first half, with Man of The Match, Baguley particularly imperious spending the whole game ensuring the Cambs centre forward had nightmares of The Sandman as any attempt to develop the ball was gently snuffed out with a sprinkling of magic from Baguley's stick. Clarke decided to stay the whole game this week and the team was grateful for his decision to do so as he made many great challenges. Meanwhile, Sisson in goal has now added diving saves to his repertoire! He like the rest of the team put in a good performance today. The game itself was always going to be about the first goal and it fell to Sutton when Batten was provider to a great Stef Fox finish as the midfield general opened the scoring; to their credit Cambs remained resolute looking to repel Sutton and it was only just before half time that the game started to be taken out of their grasp as Sutton doubled their lead – a deflected Canham finish after a good set by the midfield maestro Ed White. 2-0 HT Cambs raised their game a little after the break and whilst Sutton were never really in danger, they did make hard work of seeing the result over the line; however excellent work from the ever lively Will White, Dan Batten and very unselfish forward play by Tyler Hagan set Josh Smith up for his first goal for the team; a good reward for a good performance from the young man. 3-0 Another good win for Sutton after a good game between two good teams, 4 weeks left of the season as Sutton look to finish it on a high.
