A bleak autumn morning saw a strong third team travel to Bourne Deeping for an early push back. Spirits were high going into the fixture having won the previous two games although the team it would be the biggest test this season. The game started against Sutton with Bourne attacking hard as we'd expected and momentary indiscipline in the D allowed the ball to find the back board with keeper Matt braginton being blinded by the sea of players that blocked his view. This didn't lower Suttons spirits however and after the goal was conceded it was clear to see the thirds meant business and with great attacking play from Hagan, Sisson and Pack chances soon started to be created. Soon Sutton were rewarded through Pavel Saponenko who with a short run into the D push the ball home at the far post giving us the equaliser. Sutton carried on with this style of and more chances came along with short corners and were unfortunate to act upon them. however Suttons last short of the half with five minutes today was converted by Hagan after shots from King and Pack were saved Hagan deflected the rebound home to give Sutton the lead they deserved. unfortunately this wasn't to last and in the last two minutes of the half Bourne equalised from a bobbled shot on a short corner. Half Ended 2-2 In the second half after a constructive team talk the third team started with another brilliant performance defensively from smith the Braginton trio Matt in goal as well as Jack and Harry all putting in excellent shifts Munson and King all ensuring that shots in at Suttons goal were kept to a minimum. Sutton also attacked hard at Bourne's goal and were rewarded with a string of short corners of which were unfortunate not to be as clinical as they have been in previous weeks. As Sutton continued Bourne had a brief moment of attacking play and were also awarded a string of short corners of which were amply saved to ensure that Bourne wouldn't take the lead in the mid way stage of the half. after a stale mate and end to end hockey Sutton settled and held the ball for longer and ensured it would come close to Bourne sticks. Sutton soon changed the fate of the match when proctor took a free hit on the left hand side wing and with a lifted hit found Hagan's stick on the right hand side with a nice pick who found smooth sailing into the D and was hit sweetly into the far corner of the goal giving Sutton a much deserved lead. this spurred the third team on and with chances coming from Lambert, Collingwood smith, Proctor and Sisson it was unfortunate not to find the back of the goal. in the final 10 minutes Sutton put the game beyond doubt with a Collingwood Smith cross who found Ian White in the who's strike found the back board. Bourne fought hard till the very end but it was still Sutton who looked like changing the score line and with the final play of the game saw a Hagan flick saved by Bournes young defender off the line. Game Ended 4-2 Sutton an excellent game where Sutton looked like the under dogs against an old experienced side to come out winners is excellent to see in the third team we have this season. with 3 wins out 3 this season the 3s hope to carry on there flying start to the season when they host Leadenham next week. player of the match this week goes to Tyler Hagan for constant work rate, good stick skills and clinical on the ball when needed whether it was scoring or getting a free hit to get Sutton ahead
