fter a difficult start to the new season, Sutton were determined to come out the blocks and take the game to Shefford. Sutton started the brighter, pinching the ball from the start Shore found himself in front of goal after 30 seconds only to sky the ball over the bar. The game settled quickly with chances both ends, but the deadlock was broken with a short corner from the visitors. Sutton then turned on the heat with some intricate play from A.Shore and Fyson in the middle, Goodley found himself in the opposing D to win a corner. This was calmly dispatched by Fyson in the bottom corner. Sutton found themselves on the backfoot again with some good defence from the back line, Shefford hounded there way through to win another corner which again was slotted Home. With some good counter attacking play, Sutton again won corner, put away by B.Shore at the near post. The game started to pick up in pace and also physicality, with a new ethos Sutton matched Shefford all the way. With Half time looming and with pace on the pitch Jackson did his best Forrest Gump impression running round the back of the defence playing the ball into B.Shore to tap in. Half Time 3-2 lead. Sutton wanted to make their mark on the game and start the second half as they meant to go on, with some good play from the midfield it was clear Shefford were in for a battle, both Cook and Batten breaking through to rattle the defence. The first goal of the half went to Shefford though, another corner meant Sutton needed to stop Shefford from entering the circle again. Sutton continued to press forward and test the Shefford defence, with another great run on the wing from Jackson, he managed to find an unmarked B.Shore on the centre spot who slotted Home for his hat trick. Sutton wanted to continue the press and but the pressure on to Shefford but the lead again was short lived, Shefford scored from open play. With what felt like a never ending half of end to end play, Sutton held in Sheffords half for 5 minutes before forcing a penalty flick. None other than Fyson stepped up, placed the ball, clearing knowing the camera was rolling wanted to make this one count. This was banged into the corner of the goal to give Sutton the lead with 3 minutes to go. Shefford three the kitchen sink at Sutton winning free hit after free hit getting closer and closer to then find the net. The restart was lacking from Sutton who almost conceded again. The game finished 5-5 with an upset Shefford but a moderately delighted Sutton. It's taken 3 games to get the first point but this will surely lead to Sutton's revival of winning ways. MOTM went to Matt Goodley, for some excellent skill and for holding his own against a strong physical Shefford Broxbourne bring the next challenge for Sutton...
