Long Sutton produced another good display to make it two home wins in a row and probably more impressively two consecutive clean sheets!. Following a delayed start after an injury to a Cambs South supporter who will hopefully make a speedy recovery Sutton opened well. The opening goal came quickly as Josh Baker cut in from the right flank beating two defenders before being allowed to shoot reverse stick past the keeper who managed to get a foot to the ball but was unable to stop it going in. The host then enjoyed an excellent first half with crisp passing and good movement, Sam Markillie was outstanding in midfield with both tigerish tackles and intelligent distribution. The defence was solid with Tom Burton looking to have fully recovered from his knee injury and Adam Taylor "actually playing quite well this week". Sutton added a second goal as Will White kept up his goal a game ratio with a good finish from a corner rebound. The midfield worked well with Jacob Synnott again belying his age with a mature and composed performance. After half time Cambs South came out with a far more focused approach and were quick to apply pressure to the Sutton goal but found keeper Brad Whitmore in good form. The home team sat a little deeper than the first period and were grateful for the defending of Dan Oldfield and that standing in again captain Simon Clarke decided to start aiming his passes at the sticks of his team mates, Gary Hales did his best to hold the ball up front but the hosts were indebted to Whitmore who pulled off a number of good saves but two particularly from the top drawer. As the half progressed Sutton managed to get back to the passing of the first half and started making chances again, Baker playing deeper linked well with Will Taylor wide and Josh Ripley who enjoyed his best second team outing so far although the first goal will have wait!. Sutton made the game safe after Baker decided to return to his more customary attacking role and was able to unleash a comprehensive reverse stick finish to make the game safe. In all a performance that probably bettered the previous week due to the higher quality opposition, Sam Markillie was excellent providing the link between defence and attack but Man of the match went to keeper Brad Whitmore for a composed game with a couple of great saves. Sutton face Cambs South 3rds next week who are currently positioned comfortably above their 2nds in the league
