Sutton travelled to Taverham where they took their first point last season looking for at least the same reward. A squad of 13 arrived confident and looking ready for a good battle against the 2nd team version of the 3rd team version they played last season. Norwich dressed like their City football brothers started well and took the lead from a short corner as their fast start paid dividends. Sutton regrouped well and could have equalised on a number of occasions, with Danny Batten and Jacob Synott coming to grips with the swamped Norwich midfield and Josh Baker unplayable in patches. Sadly as a unit Sutton could not finish a senta………………. And with the half coming to an end conceded a second from a penalty flick which Brad Whitmore got to and was unlucky not to keep it out. The second half started well and Sutton pressed but were always susceptible to the regularly played long ball from Norwich. The teams exchanged goals with the Sutton effort coming from a well worked move that Baker finished well. Sutton then started a late push and good work from Batten, Taylor and East resulted in another goal for Baker. Norwich then played a long ball through the centre which the centre-forward ran onto and finished with a style Teemu Pukki would have been proud of! There was still time for Baker to complete his hat trick and a good man of the match performance but sadly not enough time to get what would have been a deserved equaliser. Sorry for the brevity of the report as my note writer had a better offer!
