Buoyed on from a competitive start to the season. Something long Sutton mens 1s has seemingly lacked in seasons previous. A draw from south away and a narrow defeat to Bourne. Both teams we expect to see nearer the top end of the table come season end. City of Peterborough 3s was a team we also expect to be seeing at the top end come season conclusion.

Given a 4 o'clock push back at Breton. This gave the team ample time to find their way down the undulating fen road. A strong warm up saw us go into the game brighter than we had in weeks previous. Unlike in the last 2 games going down in under 5 minutes the defence of Cliff, Oldfield,Donaghy, fyson, proctor and on ocassion Ibrahim held firm. Our goal would come inside 10 minutes. A swift baseline run and "pass" from east found Frazer back post to volley top corner.

As much a jubilation it was too much from proctor who in his excitement saw yellow and a 5 minute sit down to calm down not talking about the horrendous "tackle" inside our 25. The subsequent short corner was well saved and the 10 men on pitch worked hard utilising half press to see out the time without conceding.

Proctor back on. 30 seconds later….. 1-1 Peterborough finishing a well rounded baseline run finished off by a familiar face in the opposition ranks. Peterborough aware time would not be on their side looked put game to bed in the first half. The stead fast midfield of Ibrahim gray with help from Will Taylor and East held the centre. The flanks of sargeant, Olly Taylor with plant and Nellis subbing on kept the flanks quiet. The scores would not change Up to half time.

The second half started as the first ended. Peterborough would continue to press and press hard to try and make the breakthrough but the entire team held firm throughout whether through open play or through short corners the team soaked up mounting pressure. It would be half way thst the tide would turn. Peterborough's older heads would take time to recoup and allowed the younger pace within suttons side to take full advantage. Smart hockey and quick passing worked our way into dangerous positions just lacking that last touch. The deadlock would finally be broken. That same hard pressing, attacking hockey would prove dividends and a ball across saw green players lining up to finish. Quick draw of straws and Brad Sargent slapped the ball bottom corner for a deserved lead.

Much to the excitement of this goal. Fraser watt decided that he would need his sit down to calm down and saw green and only 2 minutes. Having gone down Peterborough were spurred on to try and level the scores. With 10 men and then back with 11 the men in green continued to play their smart brand of quick passing, drawing fouls and working their way out the d and upto the opposition 25. The final 5 minute battle saw Sutton under contestant pressure some thing the side absorbed with great commitment to see the time down to full time.

A fantastic performance from the men and look to build on this performance as they go to early league leaders Wisbech for s Friday night game under the lights.
