Long Sutton travelled to Cambridge looking to continue the good form of previous weeks but endured a frustrating afternoon. Sutton struggled to adapt to the very bouncy dry pitch and spent much of the first period trying to master the basics of stopping and passing the ball. The home side used their experience to put the visitors under pressure. Sam Markillie and Will White worked hard in midfield but struggled to make a break through higher up the pitch. The hosts took the lead with a good deflection from the one high quality short corner of the game. They also missed another chance when they were awarded a penalty stroke but Sutton keeper Brad Whitmore saved comfortably. As the game progressed the away side grew more confident of their basic skills and began to string passes together and dominate the game. It was however a day to forget in front of goal as the forwards and midfield contrived to miss an array of chances most notably from a corner count that stretched well into double figures. A bright spot was the debut of Tyler Hagan who showed skill and workrate that bodes well for the future. The team must now return to more familiar turf on Saturday and take the effort they displayed and turn it into end product.
