After 3 losses to start the season Suttons mood could have easily matched the skies at the Peele; grey and damp! However the return of Rambo Burton and Will Taylor from a harvest down on the farm had bolstered numbers and the team warmed up with a renewed endeavour. The game started brightly and for the first 10 minutes the visitors had the best of the chances, but good work from Baguley, Adam Taylor and Donaghy kept the scoreline goalless until an excellently worked goal from St Ives gave them the lead. Sutton heads did not drop and Gray, Ibrahim and the ever reliable Fox in the midfield fought well alongside the almost rampant Burton who was inspired on his return. Half time came around and after a good team talk the team set about cutting the deficit; with Joe Exotic linking well through the midfield with East, Wiles and Olly Taylor. Still the goal did not come and it was beginning to look like one of those days for Sutton when from a well worked short, Joe Exotic finished well to provide the equaliser. The goal had a contrasting effect on both teams: St Ives suddenly felt vulnerable whilst Sutton were emboldened by the experience – 1-1 quickly became 2-1 as Joe Exotic doubled his tally and the squad played with a freedom they haven't all season. Ibrahim scored a great finish before the end to make the score 3-1 and points were on the board. The squad had pulled together well, played together well and most importantly had fun! Special thanks go out to the spectators who braved the weather and provided great encouragement for the team. Onwards and upwards and onto next week.
